In this webinar, Mike will work with you to make sense of Math Practice 7: Look For and Make Use of Structure and how this unfolds in primary classrooms. Participants will...

  •  explore classroom routines that support students in making use of structure
  • learn how this work contributes to the development of procedural fluency
  • analyze student thinking and teacher moves by watching classroom video clips of students working on similar ideas
  • explore how teachers can begin implementing these ideas in their classrooms

Mike Flynn is the director of Mathematics Leadership Programs at Mount Holyoke College and runs the Master of Arts in Mathematics Teaching program. Prior to this work he taught second grade at the William E. Norris Elementary School in Southampton, MA for 14 years. He is also the author of Beyond Answers: Exploring Mathematical Practices with Young Children. He is the 2008 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, a recipient of a 2009 National Education Association Award for Teaching Excellence, and a 2010 recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching. You can find him on Twitter @MikeFlynn55 and you can get his book HERE.

Christina Tondevold is a math consultant and a Recovering Traditionalist. She works daily on finding a balance of procedural and conceptual experiences to provide for teachers to help them find that same balance when teaching children. She blogs about those experiences at www.TheRecoveringTraditionalist.com. You can find her on Twitter @BuildMathMinds and on 7

In this webinar, Mike will unpack what the Standards for Mathematical Practices look like in K-2 classrooms. For this particular session, we will work to make sense of MP7: Look For and Make Use of Structure.
